10 Animated Shorts Advance in 2013 Oscar® Race

BEVERLY HILLS, CA —The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences today announced that 10 animated short films will advance in the voting process for the 86th Academy Awards®. Fifty-six pictures had originally qualified in the category.

The 10 films are listed below in alphabetical order by title, with their production companies:

“Feral,” Daniel Sousa, director, and Dan Golden, music and sound design (Daniel Sousa)

“Get a Horse!” Lauren MacMullan, director, and Dorothy McKim, producer (Walt Disney Feature Animation)

“Gloria Victoria,” Theodore Ushev, director (National Film Board of Canada)

“Hollow Land,” Uri Kranot and Michelle Kranot, directors (Dansk Tegnefilm, Les Films de l’Arlequin and the National Film Board of Canada)

“The Missing Scarf,” Eoin Duffy, director, and Jamie Hogan, producer (Belly Creative Inc.)

“Mr. Hublot,” Laurent Witz, director, and Alexandre Espigares, co-director (Zeilt Productions)

“Possessions,” Shuhei Morita, director (Sunrise Inc.)

“Requiem for Romance,” Jonathan Ng, director (Kungfu Romance Productions Inc.)

“Room on the Broom,” Max Lang and Jan Lachauer, directors (Magic Light Pictures)

“Subconscious Password,” Chris Landreth, director (National Film Board of Canada with the participation of Seneca College Animation Arts Centre and Copperheart Entertainment)

The Academy’s Short Films and Feature Animation Branch Reviewing Committee viewed all the eligible entries for the preliminary round of voting at screenings held in New York and Los Angeles.
Short Films and Feature Animation Branch members will now select three to five nominees from among the 10 titles on the shortlist. Branch screenings will be held in Los Angeles, New York and San Francisco in December.

The 86th Academy Awards nominations will be announced live on Thursday, January 16, 2014, at 5:30 a.m. PT in the Academy’s Samuel Goldwyn Theater.

The Jockstrap Raiders / student academy awards

The Jockstrap Raiders is a Student Academy Award winning animated short film about a group of misfits during world war I. It takes place in Leeds, England where our heroes are all excluded from the war due to various abnormalities. Threatened by the invading German Kaiser and his army, they must learn to become a team and overcome their deficiencies in order to save Britain, and the world.
Completed at UCLA, it is Mark Nelson's MFA thesis project. The short has won many awards, including: Student Academy Award; Best Animation, British Animation Festival; Best Animation Macon Film Festival; Best Narrative Short GI Film Festival; Audience Award Orlando Film Festival.

After many years of marriage, Walter and Madge have grown apart. They don't even bother to argue anymore, even though they can't agree which way is up—literally. Walter lives on the floor, and Madge lives on the ceiling; or if you ask Madge, it's Walter who lives on the ceiling. They live separate, parallel lives in the same house, never talking, barely even looking at each other.

Senai nemačiau tokio filmo, kuris būtų tiek daug festivalių laimėjęs :) Beje, tai vienas iš pretendentų laimėti kitais metais prestižinį Oskarą. Filmas yra įtrauktas tarp 33 trijų, kurie tai varžosi dėl to :)

Mano manymu tai vienas iš originaliausių ir geriasiu animacinių filmų šiais metais nominuotų oskarui. Logorama pasižymi šiuolaikiškumu ir užburiančiu veiksmu, kuris žavi ir nepaleidžia iki paskutinės akimirkos. Siūlau ir rekomenduoju pasižiūrėti ir jokiu būdu nepraleisti pro šalį :)

The Old Man And The Sea

Priblokštas, sujaudintas ir sužavėtas. Filmas, kuris paliko man gilų įspūdi. Tai istorija, kuri buvo daryta net tris metus ir pelnytai laimėjusi oskarą kaip geriausias metų trumpametražis animacinis filmas. Aleksandras Petrovas yra unikalus animatorius-režisierius iš Rusijos, kuris nepiešia filmų, o juos tapo. Taip, šis filmas nėra nei 3D animacija, nei klasikinė, tai daug unikalesnė technika - tapymas ant stiklo. Net 23.000 tokių piešinių buvo nutapyta (įsivaizduojat?). Nepakartojama. Patariu pasižiūrėti ir skaičiusiems šią nepaprasta Hemingvėjaus ,,Senis ir Jūra" knygą, ir besidomintiems kinu ar animacija. Tai klasika, tai nepaprasta. Privalu pamatyti kiekvienam kinomanui.

Patariu pasižiūrėti ir Making of'ą, kad susidarytumėte didesnį įspūdi ir pajaustumėte šio filmo sudėtingumą.

Va nesenai teko man sužinoti, kad yra tokie studentų oskarai ir jie teikiami kasmet, atrodo kaip tikri, tik visose nominacijose dalyvauja studijuojantys meną asmenys.
Radau pora šviežiausių darbų laimejusių tą nuostabųjį oskarą. Na nieko stebuklingo, bet susipažinti manau verta:)

From being born with Tourette Syndrome to getting struck by lightning; from having his testicle removed to developing Alzheimer's disease; Harvie's troubles seem unending ! Yet, Harvie learns many lessons about life and enjoys its many fruits. He finds love, freedom, nudity and ultimately the true meaning of what it is to be human.

Tai animacinis filmas, kuris 2004m. neturėjo su lygių. Pasiėmęs garbingąjį oskarą, jis susišlavė dar dvi dešimtis pirmos klasės pasaulio kino apdovanojimų. Festivaliai šio filmo laukdavo išskėtę rankas, o žiūrovai vienbalsiai pritarė, kad tai išties geras filmas.
Tai istorija apie patį nelaimingiausią žmogų pasauly, kuriam visiškai nesisekė, kad ir kaip jis besistengė...

Šiuo metu pasaulis sulaikęs kvapą laukia nujausio Adam'o Elliot'o animacinio filmo Mary and Max, kuris atidarys garbingąjį Saudanco kino festivalį.
